"El Panadero Y El Chice"
"El Panadero Y El Chice" is inspired by German Valdes' "El Panadero"; the iconic song became stuck in my head as I was drawing which led me to crave for a concha, one of my favorite pan dulces, and to create a comic of a panadero. I had been wanting to create a short meet and crush comic, so I leaned into the puppy-dog aspect of crushing on a stranger and felt compelled to write about Julian, the leading trans chicano who isn't out to his well-meaning but ignorant mother. It led me to think what kind of person Julian would crush on and how they could possibly relate to their closeted situation. It is both a cute but carthatic comic that I've written with my own hopes of making a connection with a partner despite being a semi-closeted genderfluid person myself while navigating my own relationship with my family.
